The new Birth-to-Five Coalition of Monroe County is now underway. Formed to ensure that every child gets a “smart start” during the first five years, the Coalition will work to increase the skills of parents, caregivers, and the community to set up our youngest children for success in school and life. The Community Foundation is pleased to be joined by United Way and Smithville Charitable Foundation as co-founders of the Coalition.
Lois Hutter-Pishgahi (pictured at right) serves as Coalition Coordinator. She brings to this position a depth of experience in both direct service and best practices research related to early childhood, as well as strong facilitation and planning skills.
The Coalition aims to support coordination among service providers that work with young children and their parents – as well as to tap a range of other community stakeholders – and to facilitate strategic planning and partnerships, building on our community’s strengths and addressing its gaps. Another important objective is to raise public awareness about the importance of the first five years of life and what each of us can do.
To contact the Coordinator or be added to the Coalition’s contact list, please call (812) 345-6843 or send a message to lois"at"monroesmartstart.org.
